We know it for a long time: The industry has to invent new things every year to keep us challenged. Fine. In reference to Foam Rolling http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/well-good/teach-me/73892047/foam-rolling-can-help-ease-back-pain we need to know who and why we can suffer "knots"! In the last 25 years as trainer, athletic coach and lecturer etc I saw many people coming and going. The largest group turning up with "knots" have been always the physically inactive people! And after some months being active and working out, all the "knots" were gone! This is what we want: Make people be PHYSICALLY active, give all your tissue a decent workout every week, increase tissues metabolism which softens tissue the active way! And please, always question, why we can get "knots"! They could pop up as a result of eg lower back issues and frankly, we roll around on a sore, tight protected system. Here we treat symptoms only and on top of that, telling our brain to seize more and more up as we knead/roll/squeeze protected tissue etc. Why would you do this? We should rather find the source for tight tissue and "knots". It makes much more sense working with a good osteopath/physio/chiropractor or other to find out WHY you "knot-up" and then target them with the right treatments....! Every "knot" is different, every person is different and so is the access to the issues.
